Job Description
Position Tile:  Maintenance Worker I
Department:  Public Works
Reports to:     Public Works Supervisor
General Statement of Duties:
The successful applicant performs a combination of manual and technical duties for the Public Works Department in support of the Town of Ocean View.  Work is generally performed under the direction of a supervisor.  You will often be required to work independently, therefore, you must be willing and able to successfully complete tasks efficiently with little oversight and representing the Town well. Applicant should have a strong interest and background in contributing to a team, taking direction and showing initiative.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Operate and maintain a small truck over local area providing maintenance and logistical support.
  2. Operation of hand tools, power tools, and heavy equipment including zero-turn mowers, tractors, and skid steers, and loaders.
  3. Road and street side maintenance including clearing of litter and debris, street and regulatory road sign maintenance, minor asphalt repairs, and clearing of tree branches and brush obstructive traffic and visibility.
  4. Perform groundskeeping and light facility maintenance for, but not limited to, Town of Ocean View Park areas, Streets, Right of Ways, drainage ditches, facilities, and other areas as directed.
  5. Provide janitorial and occasional mechanical trade support for Town facilities, vehicles, and equipment.
  6. Support special events at Town Park and other sites including after hours work.
  7. Seasonal Mosquito adulticide and larvicide spraying of all streets and in-town property.
  8. Seasonal snow removal on all Town of streets, sidewalks, walkways, and parking areas.
  9. Other duties as assigned.
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  1. Ability to lift and move objects of over (50) lbs. over short distances.
  2. Ability to lift and move objects of 25 lbs. or less over long distances.
  3. Ability to stand, bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, and ascend steps and climb ladders in the course of daily work.
  4. Ability to lift arms and loads of up to (100) lbs. above shoulder.
  5. Delaware Pesticide Applicators License (or ability to obtain with 6 months of hiring date).
  6. Ability to acquire necessary skills and perform all required tasks within a reasonable period of on-the-job training.
  7. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions in the English language.
  8. Ability to work cooperatively with other Town employees.
  9. Ability to work safely and follow all safety guidelines and procedures.
