After multiple doctors visits and many tests to determine the cause of their childrens' illnesses\, it was research done by both of the mothers which lead to the correct diagnosis of Lyme disease and other tick-borne illnesses. The two mothers joined forces and started the Lyme Disease Association of the Eastern Shore of Maryland\, holding monthly support group meetings in Salisbury\, Maryland and having a table of information at community events. The organization's efforts increased through the years as tick-borne diseases became more endemic on the Delmarva Peninsula\, and the group changed its name in 2016 to the Lyme Disease Association of Delmarva\, Inc. ("LDAD") to better reflect its wider geographical influence.
