Oyster Reef-A-Palooza with Delaware Center for the Inland Bays

Oyster Reef-A-Palooza with Delaware Center for the Inland Bays

Join the Delaware Center for the Inland Bays to help create a new oyster reef! Oysters are a keystone species for our Bays, helping to improve water quality and providing habitat for other marine life. The preferred habitat for baby oysters to grow is on other oyster shells, which is why they are building a new oyster reef at Pasture Point at the James Farm Ecological Preserve.

The Details: Step 1: Supplies Staging, September 24th-25th, 8AM-noon

Step 2: Oyster Reef Building, October 5th-7th, two shifts: 8AM-noon; 1-4PM

Step 3: Loose Shell Spreading, October 14th-17th, time to be determined.

Please note that these dates are weather-dependent and subject to change.

Each step/activity requires working outdoors, lifting heavy objects, and possibly getting wet. Please dress comfortably with safety in mind. Closed-toe shoes are required.

Not a Center volunteer yet? No problem! Complete the volunteer application in Better Impact and start your journey as a volunteer for the Bays! Register at least 24 hours before each event to receive all the details, including what to bring and location, via email.
