Ribbon Cutting: Playground & Park Dedicated to Master Sgt. Ernie Colwell
The Delaware National Guard Youth Foundation will gather with the leadership of the Delaware National Guard, community leaders, and Guard Kids to dedicate "Colwell Park", named after retired Master Sgt. Ernie Colwell who is the founder of the beloved summer Guard kids' camp. The dedication will take place on Thursday, July 25, 2019 at 1:30 p.m.
Camp Colwell was created in 2001 by retired Master Sgt. Ernie Colwell, whose mission was to provide an opportunity for Delaware National Guard Youth to experience a quality summer camp and foster a sense of well-being while forming bonds with peers. The Camp is now entering its 19th year, and operated by the nonprofit, Delaware National Guard Youth Foundation. It takes place each year on the grounds of the Bethany Beach Training Site.
The Colwell Park renovation project was funded by the Delaware National Guard Youth Foundation and includes a swing set, play gym and landscaping. Total funding for the project is $35,000. The Foundation has raised funds over the last several years for the first of two structures that will be in the park and they continue to fundraise to build the second play gym structure.
