Welcome Back Osprey
To answer these questions, Delaware Seashore State Park will present Get Ready for Osprey Season at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 8 at the Savages Ditch Road picnic shelter.
A Park naturalist will give tips on identifying Osprey and distinguishing other large birds commonly found in the Inland Bays area; and discuss Osprey feeding strategies and preferred nesting sites. The naturalist will also explain the life cycle - what we expect Osprey to be doing at different times of the year; and list some good places to view Osprey in Delaware Seashore State Park.
With any luck, participants will be able to view Osprey during the program and practice using identification tips. Guests are welcome to bring their own binoculars, but there will be a spotting scope for all to use and a limited number of binoculars for loan.
This program will be conducted rain or shine, as the picnic shelter will allow most program elements to be completed under a roof. Nonetheless, guests should come dressed for the weather and sun block is always recommended when outdoors.
This program is free of charge and pre-registration is not necessary. Participants can meet the Park Naturalist at the Savages Ditch picnic pavilion at 10 a.m. For more information, please call the Indian River Life-Saving Station at (302) 227-6991.
Delaware Seashore State Park is located between Bethany Beach and Dewey Beach and many land areas and facilities are near Delaware Route 1. Savages Ditch Road is bayside from Route 1 and the intersection is about ½ mile south of the Indian River Life-Saving Station and about ¾ mile north of the Indian River Inlet Bridge. The picnic shelter is near the end of the road.
