In partnership with The Delaware Deaf Senior Citizens, the South Coastal Library in Bethany Beach will be sponsoring and hosting several Deaf Awareness programs during the month of September 2026 in celebration and recognition of Deaf Awareness Month. The Delaware Deaf Senior Citizens will also independently host and sponsor several additional community events throughout the month that can be found here soon.
On Tuesday, September, 15 @ 4 pm we are proud to welcome Deaf Author, Dr. Irene Leigh, to discuss her book, Hiding the Holocaust: Memoir of a Deaf Daughter and her journey to understand how her parents’ experiences during the Nazi years resulted not only in her experiences with intergenerational trauma but also resilience generated by her parents’ full acceptance of her as a deaf child. She will also touch on her writing process and the publishing process. For those patrons who pre-purchase the book, the author will be available following the program for a signing. ASL interpreting services are available and sponsored by ASL Connections, Lewes, DE.
