Come to the Delaware Botanic Gardens for a private tour including lunch!
Meet at the Delaware Botanic Gardens (DBG) for a private tour for customers of Inland Bays Garden Center. Your tour guides will be Christine Justice, Director of Horticulture and Educational programming along with a DBG docent. DBG is closed to the public on Tuesday so your group will be the ONLY guests at the gardens. Enjoy a picnic lunch from Kristina’s Kitchen in the gardens after the tour.
You will learn about the history of the Delaware Botanic Gardens as well as all its completed features on the 37-acre property. It is a walking tour. The pathways are all ADA compliant. A golf cart can be available if needed. You will see the world-renowned Piet Oudolf 2-acre meadow which blooms from June through fall with 70,000 perennial plants & grasses. The other areas you will also see are:
•The Folly Garden features the original homestead of the farm with 40,000 flowering bulbs, annuals, perennials, shrubs, and trees as well as a new reflecting pool.
•Endangered and restored habitats such as the non-tidal freshwater wetland and learning garden, vernal ponds, and a re-created ancient inland dune biome.
•Whimsical creatures, magical places, hollies galore and living shoreline restorations in the 12.5 acres of woodlands, gentle paths, and edge gardens.
•Abundant butterflies, birds, and other pollinators -- a part of a package of environmentally sustainable initiatives that also features an award-winning living shoreline, a rain garden and green technology bathrooms.
• The Rhyne Garden in the parking area is an example of parking lot and storm water run-off management. In 2020-21 the Rhyne was planted with 12,000 native perennials, 300 shrubs, and 36 red maples.
•The Inland Dunes, Charles Anderson Family Holly Tree Collection, the Hedgerow Garden, and the Azalea Collection are other areas of interest.
