Frankford Public Library - Speaker Series: A City Upon a Hill: The American Character, Built Over 250 Years of History
Join us for an interactive presentation with historian and author Dr. Charles Errico, as we examine the qualities that made the United States a world leader that earned the respect of other nations for its strength of character and humanitarian values. It was the Puritan, John Winthrop, who envisioned a "city upon a hill; the eyes of all people are upon us." Dr. Errico will provide examples of nineteenth and twentieth century presidents who exhibited leadership qualities such as magnanimity, the ability to communicate high ideals, and strength during times of crisis.
Charles Errico recently retired as a professor at Northern Virginia Community College and George Mason University. He has a Ph.D. in American diplomatic history from the University of Maryland. His book, Portrait of America, is required reading at numerous universities. He has won a number of teaching awards and, in 2007, was named an outstanding professor in Virginia and had the opportunity to meet the late Queen of England who was in Williamsburg celebrating the 400th anniversary of the founding of Jamestown.
