The public is invited to meet childbirth educator Marylou Tietz and Lactation Consultant Geri Fitzgerald at the grand opening of Babies, Birth and Breastfeeding: Classes and Consultations in Childbirth, Baby Care and Breastfeeding. Entertainment will include door prizes, refreshments and a drawing for free classes and consultations.

With decades of experience between them, Fitzgerald and Tietz have joined forces to provide an array of services to expectant and new parents in the Delmarva area. Fitzgerald is a Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and Pediatric Nurse Practitioner with 45 years experience in maternal and child health. She developed a lactation consulting business, HoneySuckle, in Maryland and has now moved that business to Delaware. Geri provides expert advice and consultation to families with newborn and young infants with feeding problems, especially breastfeeding.  She specializes in supporting and protecting breastfeeding mothers and their infants during a very vulnerable period.  Geri has been a member of the US Breastfeeding Committee, and is an expert in safe infant feeding in emergencies.  She is a member of the Delaware Breastfeeding Coalition, and currently represents the International Lactation Consultant Association at the United Nations, advocating for breastfeeding.
 
Tietz, a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator with over 30 years of experience in the Washington DC area where she served as President of DC Lamaze, has relocated her practice to Bethany Beach and will begin offering group and private classes this spring. In addition to her extensive experience teaching Lamaze, Tietz is also certified as a labor support specialist/doula as well as being trained in hypnobirthing. She enjoys guiding women and their partners to help them achieve the positive birth experiences that they envision.  She forges a personal relationship with her students and her quiet confidence immediately puts new parents at ease. By offering both small group classes and private sessions she is able to give her clients personalized attention and address all of their questions and concerns. “I’m a firm believer that birth is a normal physiologic experience, not a pathological event fraught with the potential for disaster as it is so often depicted.”
