Discover the finer points of writing poems in response to art. Led by Tara Elliott, the president of the Eastern Shore Writers Association and chair of the Bay-to-Ocean Writer's Conference, workshop participants will be provided an inspirational nature image in celebration of Earth Day and create an ekphrastic poem. According to the Poetry Foundation, an ekphrastic poem is a vivid description of a scene or, more commonly, a work of art. All workshop materials will be provided. This event takes place outdoors with social distancing. Participants must bring their own chair and wear a mask.
Tara A. Elliott’s poems have appeared in "TAOS Journal of International Poetry & Art," "The American Journal of Poetry," and "Stirring," among others. A middle-grades English teacher, and the founder and director of Salisbury Poetry Week, she is a past poet-in-residence for the Freeman Arts Pavilion Poetry Program through its Arts in Education Program and a fellow of the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts (VCCA). She serves as president of the non-profit Eastern Shore Writers Association, and co-chair of the annual Bay to Ocean Writers Conference. Forthcoming poems will soon appear in "Gargoyle," "Gyroscope," and "The Shore" magazines.
