Winter Lecture Series event – “Talking Trash: Impacts and Solutions to Debris in Delaware”
Please join the Delaware Center for the Inland Bays for the second installment in our Winter Lecture Series event – “Talking Trash: Impacts and Solutions to Debris in Delaware” on Thursday, January 26th from 5-7 pm at the South Coastal Library in Bethany Beach. Kathleen Bergin with DNREC’s Division of Watershed Stewardship will provide an overview of marine debris, including its impact on navigation and ways to help reduce our impact. Hayden Boettcher, a doctoral candidate in the School of Marine Science and Policy at the University of Delaware, will discuss microplastics and their effect on local marine life. Attendees will have the opportunity to enter to win one of two raffle prizes that help address microplastic pollution. Free terrapin excluder devices (TEDs)—bycatch reduction devices that prevent diamondback terrapin turtles and other aquatic wildlife from getting trapped in recreational crab pots—will also be available for attendees to take home.
